This Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is a one-off commission nicknamed “Golden Era” and created through Bugatti’s Sur Mesure program. It stands as one of the most ambitious bespoke projects ever undertaken by the brand. The car was built for a passionate Bugatti collector who wanted to celebrate the engineering brilliance of the W16 engine and the century-long heritage that led to its creation.
Over a two-year process, Bugatti’s designers developed an entirely new approach to personalization. 45 detailed sketches of Bugatti’s most significant cars were hand-drawn directly onto the body of the Chiron Super Sport, a task that required more than 400 hours of meticulous work. The passenger side depicts 26 icons from Bugatti’s early years, including the Type 41 Royale and the Type 57 SC Atlantic, while the driver’s side portrays 19 sketches from the modern era, tracing the brand’s rebirth from the EB110 through to the Veyron and the Chiron itself. At the heart of these illustrations lies a symbolic representation of the 3,712 components that form the W16 engine.
The sketches were even executed using the same pencils Bugatti designers use for paper renderings, a deliberate choice to preserve authenticity and texture.
The artwork is set against a bespoke paint created exclusively for this car, a luminous gold tone named Doré that fades into a specially developed metallic version of Nocturne black. This gradient finish serves as both canvas and contrast for the hand-drawn sketches, uniting Bugatti’s heritage with its modern design language.
Former Bugatti Design Director Achim Anscheidt described the project as the most demanding piece of personalization ever completed by his team. The work required the use of traditional sketching pencils directly on the painted surface, ensuring an authentic, handcrafted appearance. The team spent months perfecting techniques to preserve each line permanently without compromising the finish.
Inside, the story continues with hand-applied artwork on the door panels, where the EB110, Veyron, and Chiron face their historic inspirations: the Type 35, Type 57 SC Atlantic, and Type 41 Royale. Each sketch was painted directly onto the leather using a fine brush and bespoke paint, surrounded by subtle Golden Era stitching and hand-written One of One details.
The car made its public debut at Monterey Car Week 2023, marking a fitting stage for the handover of what is arguably the most artistically significant Chiron ever built.
