BMW X5 M G05

The BMW G05 X5 M is the third generation of BMW’s high-performance luxury SUV, introduced in 2019 alongside the related G06 X6 M. Based on the fourth-generation X5 platform, it brought BMW M’s performance philosophy to the latest generation of the brand’s Sports Activity Vehicle lineup.

Powered by BMW’s S63 twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8, the X5 M produced 600 hp, while the X5 M Competition increased output to 625 hp. The engine was paired with an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and BMW’s M xDrive all-wheel-drive system with a rear-biased setup, allowing the large SUV to deliver sports car levels of acceleration and handling.

Beyond the powertrain, the X5 M featured extensive chassis upgrades including model-specific suspension tuning, an Active M Differential, adaptive dampers, and reinforced body structures. Combined with its aggressive M-specific styling, wider bodywork, and quad exhaust system, the X5 M offered a more focused alternative to the standard X5 while retaining its everyday usability.

The G05 X5 M was also significant from a personalization perspective, as it marked the first time BMW Individual special paint finishes became available for BMW X models. This opened up a wider range of exclusive exterior colors compared to previous generations and resulted in a number of uniquely specified examples.

Production of the pre-LCI G05 X5 M continued until 2023, when it was replaced by the facelifted X5 M LCI.
