BMW M4 Convertible F83

Codename F83
Body type Convertible
Production 2014 - 2020

The BMW M4 F83 is the convertible counterpart to the M4 F82 Coupé, produced from 2014 to 2020. Built on the F33 4 Series Convertible platform and developed by BMW M GmbH, it combined open-top driving with the performance of the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged S55 inline-six.

Performance figures matched those of the coupé: 431 PS (425 hp) and 550 Nm of torque in standard form, with available upgrades in the M4 Competition (450 PS) and M4 CS (460 PS). Power was sent to the rear wheels through either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed M DCT dual-clutch transmission, enabling a 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) sprint in around 4.4 seconds with the DCT (slightly slower than the coupé due to the added weight of the retractable hardtop).

The F83 retained hallmark M features such as the active M differential, adaptive M suspension, and optional carbon-ceramic brakes. The folding three-piece metal roof could be opened or closed in around 20 seconds, even at low speeds, offering the flexibility of a coupe-like profile with the thrill of open-air motoring.

As production ended in 2020, the M4 F83 became the last hardtop convertible M car, giving it a unique place in BMW M history.
