Thunder

Thunder Metallic is a dark grey metallic from BMW, positioned close to the brand’s well-known Mineral Grey but with a slightly more complex character.

At its core, Thunder is a deep graphite tone, yet what sets it apart are its subtle undertones. Depending on lighting, it can reveal a blue and occasionally even a subtle green shift beneath the grey base. These undertones give the paint more dimension than a typical neutral dark grey.

Compared to Mineral Grey, Thunder Metallic generally reads a touch cooler and marginally darker. Mineral can show a mild warmth in certain conditions, while Thunder stays more on the cool side of the spectrum.

Unlike standard greys, Thunder Metallic is offered exclusively through BMW Individual. That alone makes it considerably rarer to see in person, as opposed to something like Mineral Grey.

We first saw Thunder Metallic appear in 2023, primarily on the G82 M4, and it has remained available through the BMW Individual program since.
