Borealis is a special paint color developed by McLaren Special Operations (MSO) in 2020. It was originally created for a limited run of 12 cars for the United States market, making its first use highly exclusive.

Since its introduction, Borealis has appeared on a wider range of MSO-specified McLaren models, including the Elva, 765LT, 750S, 720S, and Artura, indicating its continued availability within the MSO palette rather than remaining a one-off color.

Visually, Borealis reads primarily as a very dark black, but contains a purple and green metallic flake. In low light, the paint often appears almost completely black. Under direct sunlight or strong artificial lighting, the colored flake becomes visible, revealing subtle shifts between dark purple and green tones depending on viewing angle and light source.
