Blue Water vs Silverstone
A side-by-side comparison between two paints with similar characteristics both found on the standard paint range of the E39 M5.
Blue Water Metallic actually replaced Silverstone for MY02 cars and onwards but is a whole lot rarer to find than Silverstone, almost ten times (!) rarer to give you an idea.
Moving on to how they look, Blue Water Metallic (seen here on the left) is slightly darker than Silverstone which amusingly is actually a bit more blue than Blue Water, something you probably wouldn't have expected going solely by their names.
In these pictures taken in direct sunlight it almost looks like there's as good as no blue tone in Blue Water as its blue tone is a bit more apparent in the shade.
We also have to note that seeing them side-by-side obviously blows up the differences, when seeing them individually they are bit harder to tell apart for the untrained eye.
Another side note: this is the first iteration of the Silverstone paint, it moved on the second iteration, Silverstone II, a few years later and is still available today. The blue tone is less noticeable on the second iteration.
Blue Water is no longer available today.
