The Mk7.5 Golf GTI is the facelifted version of Volkswagen’s iconic hot hatch, introduced in late 2017 for the 2018 model year. Building on the strengths of the Mk7, the facelift brought sharper LED lighting, updated bumpers, new alloy wheel designs, and a refreshed interior with updated infotainment options, including the availability of VW’s Digital Cockpit.
Under the bonnet, the 2.0-litre turbocharged EA888 engine produced between 230 PS (227 hp) and 245 PS (241 hp) depending on trim and market. Power was sent to the front wheels through either a 6-speed manual or an updated 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox. The Performance Pack, standard in some markets, added larger brakes, a mechanical limited-slip differential, and the higher 245 PS output.
The Mk7.5 GTI retained its reputation for blending everyday comfort with sharp, engaging handling. It remained practical thanks to its five-door option and a refined cabin, while still delivering the character and driving enjoyment that have made the GTI name legendary.
Production continued until 2020, when it was succeeded by the Mk8 GTI. Today, the Mk7.5 is often praised as one of the most balanced and best-executed generations of the GTI.
