The McLaren 620R is a rare, road-legal interpretation of McLaren’s GT racing machinery, positioned as one of the most extreme customer cars the brand has ever produced. Revealed in late 2019, the 620R is directly derived from the 570S GT4 race car, retaining much of its motorsport hardware while being adapted for limited road use.
Power comes from a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 620 PS, making it the most powerful Sports Series McLaren ever built. The drivetrain is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and sends power to the rear wheels, delivering performance that sits firmly between McLaren’s road cars and its full competition models.
Visually and mechanically, the 620R closely mirrors the GT4. It features a carbon fibre front splitter, fixed rear wing, roof scoop, race-derived suspension geometry and a wider track than the standard 570S. Adjustable coil-over suspension, carbon ceramic brakes and lightweight forged wheels underline its track-focused intent, while the stripped-back interior reinforces its motorsport roots.
Production was limited to just 225 units worldwide, making the 620R both rare and highly significant within McLaren’s modern lineup. It represents a unique bridge between McLaren’s customer racing programme and its road-car philosophy, offering a near-GT race car experience in a street-legal package.
