Honouring a visionary designer: The 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche

On 11 December 2025, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, the designer who defined Porsche’s timeless aesthetic, would have turned 90. To mark this milestone, Porsche has unveiled the 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche, a limited commemorative edition that captures the spirit of F. A.’s designs, from the 1980s G-Series 911 he personally drove to the iconic elements of Porsche Design.

A Tribute to F. A. Porsche

F. A. Porsche’s design philosophy was simple but revolutionary: let function guide form. This principle shaped some of Porsche’s most famous creations, including the original 911. In 1972, alongside his brother Hans-Peter, he founded Porsche Design, producing objects that remain classics today, from the Chronograph 1 wristwatch to the P’8478 sunglasses.

The 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche embodies this ethos. Developed in collaboration with his son Mark Porsche, the model brings together heritage cues, bespoke details, and modern GT3 performance.

“I’m sure my father would have loved this very special 911. Through many details, we have incorporated my father’s personal preferences into this exciting project.” – Mark Porsche

Design and Performance

While the 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche is limited to just 90 units and retains the familiar naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six producing 510 PS and 450 Nm of torque, the defining feature of this anniversary model is its bespoke exterior finish.

F. A. Green Metallic is a newly created Paint to Sample Plus colour, developed specifically for this project by Porsche’s paint specialists in close collaboration with the Porsche family. The shade draws direct inspiration from the Oak Green Metallic finish worn by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche’s personal 911, translating a historic colour reference into a modern metallic formulation suited to today’s GT3 bodywork.

This process goes beyond selecting an existing archive colour. Paint to Sample Plus allows Porsche to create an entirely new paint finish, tailored in hue, metallic content, and depth exclusively for a single project. In this case, F. A. Green Metallic serves as both a visual tribute and a personal link to F. A. Porsche himself.

Marking its significance, this model is the first Porsche to carry the new Paint to Sample Plus identification label on the A-pillar. From 2026 onwards, all Porsche vehicles finished in Paint to Sample or Paint to Sample Plus will feature this label, formally identifying cars with bespoke paint development and highlighting the additional craftsmanship involved.

Other exterior highlights are the Sport Classic wheels finished in satin-gloss black, inspired by historic Fuchs designs, and a galvanised gold-plated ‘90 F. A. Porsche’ badge mounted on the engine lid grille.

Interior: Heritage in Every Detail

The cabin is where history and craftsmanship meet. Truffle Brown Club Leather is complemented by Chalk Beige stitching and the bespoke F. A. Grid-Weave fabric on seat centres, a pattern taken from F. A. Porsche’s favourite jacket. The Grid-Weave also appears in the glove box, luggage compartment mat, and board briefcase.

Other notable details include:

  • Open-pore walnut plywood gear knob with engraved F. A. Porsche signature
  • Decorative dashboard plaque marking each car as “One of 90”
  • Special Sport Chrono watch from Porsche Design, based on the original Chronograph 1, in black-coated titanium with COSC-certified movement

Collector’s Extras

Every owner also receives:

  • An exclusive Porsche Design Chronograph 1
  • A matching weekender bag in Truffle Brown leather with F. A. Grid-Weave lining
  • The Porsche Junior sled, a carbon-fibre remake of the 1960s classic, with F. A. Greenmetallic exterior and Grid-Weave seat cushion

These items reinforce the car’s role as a holistic collector’s experience, not just a performance machine.

Continuing F. A. Porsche’s Legacy

From the 911 to industrial design, F. A. Porsche’s work combined minimalism, function, and elegance. Studio F. A. Porsche in Zell am See continues to uphold this philosophy, producing timeless products that bear his influence decades after his passing. The 911 GT3 90 F. A. Porsche is a fitting tribute, a modern supercar steeped in history, heritage, and personal touches that connect the past to today.

Orders open April 2026, with production beginning in the second half of the year, giving buyers the opportunity to further personalise their anniversary GT3 and own a piece of Porsche history.
